Final Essay

I selected these three articles which titles are "Metro is Denmark's most dangerous workplace" , "Highly radioactive substance found in Swiss dump" and " Denmark to Launch $1 Billion Green Energy Fund".  I chose about metro in Denmark because near my home the subway construction is on progress. Also, because I use many chemicals and radioactive materials in lab, I chose about radioactive dump. Finally, I am researching about fuel cell, I chose the article about green energy fund.

I chose the article "Metro is Denmark's most dangerous workplace" from Yuk Ji Su's blog because right in front of my apartment the subway construction is on progress. Articles said that there are  hearing-impairing noise, complications with the lifts, a lack of instruction, cancer-causing substances and a risk of falls. Ji Su argues that although ratio of the number of accidents per scale of the construction  is low, construction site need absolute safety. I agree with this idea because if it collapses, my apartment is in danger. Also, the cancer-causing substances could be diffused to my apartment.

I also picked the article "Highly radioactive substance found in Swiss dump" from Jimin Lee's blog because of chemicals I use everyday. In my lab, there are lots of toxic chemicals and radioactive substances. Although I use fume hood, gloves and masks but it cannot perfectly prevent me from being irradiated. Also, we discard those substances in designated area but there are tons of those substances so that I think that place is more dangerous than other places. Jimin said that government should announce all the fact to the citizens. But I do not agree with this idea. There are lots of students even don't recognize there is designated dumping area which contains those high risk materials. If they know about that places, they will insist to move that another place.

Lastly, I selected "Denmark to Launch $1 Billion Green Energy Fund" from Bomi Ahn's blog because it related to fuel cell which I am researching. Bomi argues that renewable energy is very important because the natural gas and oil are being depleted. I strongly agree with this idea because of fuel cell's efficiency. Fuel cell shows the best thermal efficiency until now and fuel cell uses hydrogen which we can get from water forever. But still fuel cell needs to be heated to 600 degrees Celsius to activate. I will keep searching how to lower the activate temperature.

Through those three articles, I was motivated to search more energetically about fuel cell and find that this is connected to current events. Also, I could compare my opinion with other classmates' opinions. I agree with Jisu and Bomi's idea about their articles, but I disagree with Jimin's idea that governments should announce all the fact to the citizens.
